Class Description

 

Creative movement: ages 2 1/2-5 
This class is a 45 minute introduction to dance and an avenue for children to explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination and promote creativity. It includes an introduction to ballet, tumbling and tap dance as well as incorporating stretching, learning rhythm patterns and improvisation. 

Ballet/Tap: Grades K-4
This is a fun class that integrates 30 minutes of ballet basics- (i.e.-posture, positions of the feet and arms, arabesque, demi-plie, tendu etc) followed by 30 minutes of beginning tap to teach musicality, rhythm and coordination. 


BALLET

Ballet is a formalized kind of performance.   Originating in the Italian Renaissancecourts of the 15th century, it has since become a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It is primarily performed with the accompaniment of classical music.  It is a poised style of dance that incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms.  This type of dancing is very hard to achieve and takes much practice to master.

  • Ballet I: Grades 2-4

JAZZ

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of improvisation, unique moves, intricate footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.  

·         Jazz I: Grades 2-4

·         Jazz II: Grades 4-6

·         Jazz III: Middle School

·          Broadway Jazz: High School

TAP

Tap dancing is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoe. These metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians.
 

·        Tap I: Grades 2-4

·        Tap II: Grades 3-5

·        Tap III: Middle/High School   

·        Tap IV: Adult


HIP HOP
Hip hop dancing covers a large range of styles and specific moves and techniques, but the cornerstone of the style is undoubtedly break dancing. Over time, that so-called old school way of dancing and participating in hip hop culture has evolved into many different off-shoots. Funk dancing, popping and locking, jigging, freaking, krump, and hyphy are examples of types of hip hop dance, and each style contains certain moves that distinguish it from other forms.

·        Hip Hop I—Grades 1-3  

·        Hip Hop II—Grades 3-5

·        Hip Hop III—Grades 5-8

·        Hip Hop IV—High School

Cheerdance
This class covers the basic cheer movements and jumps. Students will learn tumbling skills, with the main focus of the class spent on dance moves.

·        Cheerdance I—Grades K-3  

·        Cheerdance II—Grades 3-5

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music that creates a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system.

Dance for Fun and Fitness

Dance for fun and fitness is designed for the older adult (40 and up). It consists of 30 minutes of stretching followed by movement progressions across the floor and culminating in choreography designed for the young at heart.
